- Thread-topic: Roll Call - Stand Up for User's Group
Hi all,
Our group holds onto the Apple name: Southern Maine Apple Users' Group. Our
Apple ][ focus group may not meet any more, but we don't want to change our
moniker. SMAUG fits us like a dragon!
We are currently in a building faze. The interest in Macintosh has brought
in many new and old returning members. The second round of Maine Learning
Technology Initiative iBooks, all 36,000+, came this Fall. We have many of
the old G3 iBooks still in use at the schools. My co-worker and I
refurbished 1300 this summer for our district. (We are the largest in the
state, twice the size of the next largest.) We only have 8,000+ students,
but we have 2700 Macintosh (500 desktop, 1300 MLTI, and 900 iBooks in use
with 400 backup and parts iBooks on the self) and 1200 Windows computers in
use. Busy, busy, busy. Only four techs and three admins run our shop.
Back to SMAUG: So we are focusing on presentations that the Education crowd
will need: Burning Disks 101 and 102, File Management, iLife as a total
package, and Backup, Backup, Backup, etc. Not that different than what many
others need to see. Kid Pix and Inspiration/Kidspiration are the unique
applications that we demonstrate now and then.
As far as this list goes: Like all lists I find that the topic will be right
on some days and OFF topic on others. After three or four years of lurking,
I am satisfied with the general tenor of the emails sent in. Of course some
people are just totally wrong, but what are you gonna do?
Tarik
