I couldn't believe it when I read Anthony's reply. Does he really believe we
all have pet kangaroos and live like Crocodile Dundee.
Australia has a great postal service offering next day delivery to any
capital city and 3 days even to the most remote country town. I would rate
our postal service as far superior to the US Postal Service. Where did
Anthony pull this "months to get through" comment from? Thin air obviously.
Whatever method is adopted the batteries still have to be sent to Australia
so the comment about extra importing/exporting costs is just totally bogus.
The Apple US site clearly states
" Customers in Australia and Asia (excluding Japan) should contact their
local Apple Authorized Service Provider to obtain a replacement battery.
After serial number verification, a new battery will be shipped to you, free
of charge. When you receive the replacement battery, please use the same
shipping packaging and included prepaid shipping label to return the
recalled battery to Apple for proper disposal."
Despite this being stated clearly Apple Australia refuses to do it this way
preferring to leave the responsibility to the resellers. Only around 5% of
these resellers are prepared to pre order a replacement battery without
requiring the faulty batteries to be returned first because Apple Australia
will bill these resellers for the full retail cost of the batteries if they
don't receive the faulty ones back within 10 days. This leaves Australians
with a 4-6 week wait for no good reason and leaves the cost for transporting
the faulty batteries up to the customer. This method also clearly breaks
Australian consumer law where it states in cases of recalled products it is
the responsibility of the company which sold the products to cover all costs
including shipping and packaging. Also does he really believe that Apple,
Dell and any other affected companies aren't going to seek compensation from
Sony. We are not being given any favours by Apple, it is their legal
responsibility to replace these faulty/dangerous products.
If Australian's held the same attitudes/beliefs then we would all be
convinced that Las Vegas is the porn capitol of the US. A town created by
Bugsy Malone with backing from the mafia so as to have somewhere to launder
their ill gotten gains from extortion, drugs, prostitution, gambling etc.
Luckily though Australians have a much higher quality of education than the
average US citizen (based on UN figures) and we realize that it is no longer
the 1930's and times have changed. We are not primitive we're just a long
way from the USA.
I don't want to attack anyone personally, but I couldn't let this piece of
blatant misinformation go unchallenged.
