I like the idea(s)! I visit "Help" forums more than once a day, help
moderate one, even. The one thing I've learned this year as the MUG
'president' is that the rest of the group ( and many of the 'board' )
expect 'somebody else' to come up with the programs. The ideas
mentioned, whether competition between other MUG's or 'showing off'
what someone has done locally should give at least some of the
members something to think about and do _between_ meetings! I
probably let my own lack of interest and use of many apps influence
how I think about those apps - _someone_ must like and use them since
they see continued upgrading and improving! ;-) Hopefully these ideas
will create more interest by members to participate. I also think
it's important to make sure every presenter or group gets some
minimum amount of praise/recognition no matter what the level of
expertise.
Let me know some more ideas and I'll share mine ( should I actually
have any! ).
We've thought about AV chats with other groups, but that limits us to
groups that happen to meet at the same time/date. Perhaps these
competitions/demos could be handled via a web site or simply file
transfers?
