Then visit the Team MacOSX forum (I fold with them, and we have been
recognized as a special interest AUG)
<CHOP>
I'll bet _you_ are the one that got me started 'folding'! Haven't
checked my ranking lately, sometimes that is discouraging as new
people get on line with new/faster machines. Oh well...
I've mentioned this a few times but never thought about creating a
'team' for our members. One problem is deciding which 'distributed
computing' group to join. I have _my_ favorite, but there _are_
others... ;-)
I was beginning to think this list had no members, glad to see some
participating.
My thoughts and ideas on each of your points.
<SLICE>
First off clearly define the role for each board member. In our
group, the 1st VP is the programs chair, responsible for each
monthly program. IMHO, this makes the 1st VP the hardest board job.
You know, I haven't even _seen_ this guy since he was elected! Only
three months till new people are elected, so I don't expect much out
of him before he's replaced. ;-) The other board members and I meet
the week before our monthly meeting to nail down details for that one
and brain storm about others. And most of them are really supportive
of the MUG. The hardest worker is probably the Newsletter editor who
has trouble getting the pdf ready for emailing much before 24 hours
prior to the main meeting. Some kind of group/inter-MUG competition
could be something he could use to help 'fill the white space'!
Next push to your group that the best way (and I believe this to be
true) to get the most from your Mac, is involvement in your UG. I
push the idea that TMUG's role is to help members get more from
their Mac. That is why we do this.
<MINCE>
Good point and is basically what we try to do with our demos, but
it's getting hard to find things that a majority of members are doing
or want to improve on. That's another topic for our next meeting but
I'll have to come up with a different method of 'pulling' those
'teeth'! 8-)
How about - an iPhoto slideshow contest.
Let's all set aside a meeting.
Ask members to bring in photos on a topic we decide - say "I love my
Mac." Tell them you need 20 or so photos. that will let you know how
many per participant.
Them at the meeting, divide into groups, and hand out the photos,
tell each group to create a iPhoto slide show. Music and all. They
might need to tweek the photo, crop it, change the color, etc... Do
what ever they want.
By the end of your meeting - your group can decide on the best -
best over all show and best single photo.
Export that slide show to a QT movie
We here at TMUG can host those on our server.
Over the course of the next month - all submitted slideshow can be
viewed and voted on. We can use SurveyMonkey.
Then we can give honors to the winning UG. And we'll all have access
to a QT movies with a theme, I love my Mac.
Could be fun, if we can enough interested.
I doubt that we can move that quickly. This months program is already
set but we might be able to work out getting several more computers
available for the November meeting ( we usually have only two iBooks
available ).
I'd also like to allow slide shows created in any app the mini-group
might choose. We gave a way a copy of FotoMagico this year when we
demoed it and the developers gave us two licenses. Really super
program, BTW! Much easier to access all your images/music than iPhoto.
Anyway, thanks for bringing this subject up! Hoping a few more ( less
than expert groups can join in, after all, I want our group to WIN! ).
