Hi everyone,
I hope this is the first of several exchanges identifying people who
have traveled to visit a Mac user group (in our case, Chicago) and
might be able to do so with other groups.
One is Bob "Dr. Mac" Levitus. He is very well known in the MUG
community, and has traveled to many Mac user groups. We are
privileged to have Bob on an annual visit (coming in November!) as
this is a true highlight for many members of The Rest of Us. Bob is
funny, has a depth of Mac experience that is incredible, and is able
to work with people at a wide range of ability levels. If you have
Bob at your MUG, you'll have a fun time :) More info is at:

Another one is Andrew Stone of Stone Design. They only make software
for the Mac (I'm very partial to Mac only software!) and they make a
lot of very cool stuff. (full disclosure note - I've been a beta
tester for one of Stone's products, used their stuff for years, and
I'm one of their biggest fans!) They really do give free upgrades for
life. Honest. Their software is mostly graphics and video oriented,
and provides an amazing alternative to many of the top of the line
products. Their flagship product, called Create, allows you to make
web pages, do vector illustration, and page layout, all in the same
product. These people are very solidly Mac people (actually, so is
everyone listed here!) The support is the best I've ever had. There
is a whole world of software these people make, and I think they do a
terrific job. More info is at:

Earlier this year we had the distinct pleasure of having Jayson Adams
from Circus Ponies visit us. They make a program called NoteBook,
which allows anyone to organize the stuff on their hard drive. You
have to see this to believe it. It's one of those things that you
don't know you need it until you start using it. You can check out
more at:

Just last month we had Chuck Rogers from macspeech.com visit us to
demonstrate their program, iListen. I believe this is the future of
the Mac. They have been in the speech recognition business a long
time, and their stuff really works well. You can do dictation, or
commands with it, there are many ways to customize it, and they have
tons of script packs available. I fully expect that someday Apple
will make a Mac that does not need a mouse or keyboard, and the
speech recognition will be done by these guys. This is well worth
checking out at:

All of these people did an outstanding job in their presentations,
and traveled to our MUG in Chicago. If you are looking for speakers
for your MUG, these are four that I would strongly suggest, because I
believe they can do some traveling, and hopefully get to your part of
the Mac world :)
Even if you don't meet these people, check out their Mac stuff. It's
really cool, and made a wonderful improvement in my little corner of
the universe :)
