We would like to display a banner for our club events (hence my
request regarding apple logo's recently). We are looking at a vinyl
3'x10' sign which pepsi will provide for $100 to us. It can have
our logo and any text we want. It seems like a good deal but I'm
wondering if other clubs have gone down this road before and found
even better solutions.

If Pepsi is doing this for you, I have to wonder what they get out of
it. Their logo on it? Do you really want to be endorsing you? For
$100 do you want to sell out? And will Apple mind that? (I don't know.)
I have done many a banner. Many of you who attend Macworld Expo have
seen my banners. Hanging in the Parc55 during Macworld Expo for a few
years. Last year, hanging nearly 5' wide and 8' long in Metreon
windows as you waited on line for the keynote or turned a corner to
go to Moscone. The first year's banner was done at Kinkos. It was
blocks of ink text on plastic. The sides unglued by the end of the
party. After that, I started having my banners done by Masterpiece
banner (out of San Diego; they ship).
The Masterpiece banners:
cost less than kinkos
were on better surface
were made from jpgs and are photographic quality; gradations look so
great!
the seams were sewn and remain intact
grommets are well placed and continue to hold after years
and the price... less that the cost at Kinkos. 3x5 is $129 or less
Oh, 1/2 owner, Mark Hartman is a Mac user, programmed one of the very
first Mac applications, works his tail off to help make the Macworld
parties I produce fun for you, and also helps a huge bunch on the
MacGathering™. He's a MUG advocate all the way.

Ask for Mark and tell him it's for your MUG and that I sent you. I
can't promise anything, but it might just lead to a bit of a
discount. (I don't get anything for this. I just love promoting great
products; like we all promote the Mac.)

PS: I use them for all my MacGathering™ banners, the Portable Media
Expo uses them for its huge banner, and every professional event that
I recommend them to turn around a year later and recommend them back
to me or to others.
