I'll keep checking. This is old technology. There has to be a lower price than $100.

As a result, you're force to run the drive under 40-bit LBA (logical block address), which means any hard drive you attach will be limited to 128 GB. It's an aspect of the ATA chips in the G4, so there's no solution for the ATA plugs you're using now.
Instead, you might try an ATA PCI card, like a cheap adaptec one. I think that will work. Mac OS X patched in 48-bit LBA support quite some time ago, and merely needs some ATA hardware that likewise supports it.
