We have prgrms on a manner of non-Mac things - TiVo v DV-R v Apple
TV. VoIP - Skype V Vonage.
OK. So far we've only had Mac discussions in our meetings. Everything
that runs on OS X is ofcourse also discussed.
I think Apple would actually prefr that we not be exclusively Mac.
In fact, in North Carolina we can be exclusively Mac and remain a
non-profit. So, I see it as a boon to spport other things.
Yes, but how do you manage to keep your admins and moderators sane and
you core target group happy? We managed to calm some Mac users after
we removed iPod topics from our general RSS feeds. I think Macs are so
popular nowadays that MUGs can easily only focus on them and sustain
themselves.
New, with that said, whenever a someone brings up a PC question.....
But they do, the minute you allow iPod discussions. A lot of iPod
owners are Windows users and a lot of problems are actually Windows
problems.
- To non-US UG heads - what is your stance on the whole iPhone
unlocking thing?
- Do you have public forums where anyone can register for free? If
so, do you have some basic rules that you've established?
We maintain a list serve - very popular - its free as are our
meetings. there are guidelines. List are great, they tend to police
themselves.

I think that's the key. Mailinglist create a natural "threshold" that
filters out the worst illiterate (anyone who'se managed a public forum
knows what I'm talkin about) crowd. Also, you have to use your email
address, which often is more personal than just a random alias you
pick when signing up on a forum. Then people also know your name which
makes one think twice about the things they say.
There is unfortunately no way that we could go "back" to using
mailinglists. I think that would just create a riot in the forums.
People are used to the web experience and frankly, I can't blame them.
Many, many thanks,
Many, many you're welcomes!
