Have you seen the price for an unlocked iPhone in Germany? 999€ -
which is like $1,500 - then you still need to pay for service, which
would probably mean many of the iPhone's features would be useless.
The thing is, most phones sold here are unlocked, though you usually
have to agree to a service contract to get them (the phone) at a
discounted price. But you could, at any time, put another providers
SIM in and have no problems. At least that has been my experience
with Vodafone, T-Mobile and Klarmobile in Germany.
This was annonunced just recently. What did you do before Apple
started selling iPhones in Germany? For us, it's still a black market
which I think is inapropriate for a MUG environment.
As for the other parts of this discussion - you may notice that we
changed the name from KMUG to KAUG. We focus on Apple products -
predominately the Mac, but we've had iPod and TV questions come up
in meetings. We've had a few Apple/PC users there but all but one
have switched to the Mac since attending.
I guess that's another good point - it depends on every UG's own
decisions. So far, from the feedback I've received, it seems that MUGs
have embraced all of Apple's new products as well. Do you guys run a
web forum?
