I always found it interesting that the phrase we RL's use is "Apple User Groups" when referring to clubs in our region, yet the name most clubs created themselves (way back when) includes "Macintosh User Group." I guess MUGs trips off the tongue more easily than AUGs.
Also, when most clubs formed the only thing Apple offered was Macintosh, so the name "MUG" made perfect sense. However, even this was too general for us because of the fabulous array of abilities that became associated with using the Mac.
SIGs were the solution, then. SIGs can be the solution, now.
Special Interest Groups. They can be part of your Apple group, yet focused on something different from Apple. It may mean working to:
- creating a new structure within your group,
- a new hierarchy for leadership within the SIG and AUG,
- a new HOME PAGE on your website with links to pages that reflect the needs of the SIG.
You regular EMUG meeting can be all things Apple. The Macintosh SIG, iPhone SIG and iPod SIG may meet separately and discuss their special interest. The fraternity and camaraderie of one could be contagious to the other.
Just my 2ยข worth.
