I have a very effective measure to deal with all those web2.0 outfits. They ask for my 5aol, hotmail, yahoo, and gmail contacts. I have 5 gmail contacts, and none of any of the others. All my contacts reside on my mac, not some public server. I'm not sure how mobileme is going to effect that! i think some people just need to be more patient and less leery... but overall this is a good practice. On Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 4:46 PM, Deborah Shadovitz <email@hidden> wrote:

Salutations;
Recently someone invited me to Twitter and I joined once again. Twitter asked me to check my contacts, and I forgot the 6 or 7 lists i am at are in my gmail account, so twitter must have sent an email to everyone in my gmail account which is a little bit more than 400 people. I had one person threaten to sue me (well in the end he didnt because he was a nice guy), because of this. I am very sorry.
Please don't sue me or complain to my ISP. It was a mistake. I apologize for everyone who got emailed. I have taken precautions this doesnt happen again.
Thanks!
Gilbert
That stuff just happens, Gilbert. No biggie.
But if you don't mind me turning this into a reminder/lesson for us to all pass to others (not using names or lists), this is just one small reason to never use those features where we turn over our address book.
There are more great reasons such as privacy and spam. (Privacy policies are only good until a company is sold or goes into bankruptcy; then names are sold.) I'm afraid many people do use these features and most young people are so used the net that they do it without thinking and won't see any of the reasons.
