Two of my messages regarding piracy, mugs and Presidents were blocked
form the list, I would like to know what we are allowed to discuss,
and what criteria is our guide. As has been asked, if MUGs and piracy
aren't an on-topic topics, what is? Are we to limit our discussion to
"Is Google better than Bing?" I think, although the original question
was lame and bristled with agenda, we NEED to be discussing this,
since MUGs are losing members to the internet daily. With switchers
buying Macs and feeling it's just another computer maker, bringing
with them a lack of understanding toward the benefits of MUGs and old
timers simply staying at home or going to Apple Stores, we need to
redefine our role in their computer universe.
I would much rather hear all divisions and decide what to forget, than
censorship anyday. If we can't discuss MUG ethics here, then where? If
not now then when? Raw raw ree kick him in the knee. Seriously though,
as much as I love having Viagra ads and quick money Nigerian
solicitations blocked, stifeling any debate about MUG operation,
simply because some are tired of, not interested in, or can't stay
civil only hurts the greater MUG community. As I stated in my post on
the pirating issue was censored, I think the original post was
inflamitor, but the discussion of piracy and MUGs is still a valid
topic here. If we are going to censor out this, where is the line?
Open discusion, let the silly, stupid, and even heated be heard, we're
all adults, mostly. IMHO
That said, I appreciate listmom's job and don't want to see topics not
related to MUGs, and think I haven't been disapointed in that for the
5 years I've been getting this. Although having two of my inputs
rejected doesn't make me secure about what pertinent information I
might have liked, while it wasn't allowed to reach us. Seems we can
ask peole to be civil, and if they can't be, remove them, not the
debate.
As far as legal responsibilities, this is a listserv and all about
discussion, it would be a hard case to make that if someone said
giving a copy of software for $20 was fine, and someone went and did
that, anyone beside the bootleggers would be responsible. That doesn't
seem to elevate to insighting action. Also, it doesn't feel like that
is why this thread is being closed, more because of the rancor, which
should be discouraged, but, "in a diverse world offense is to be
expected, but every offense is not oppression."
