As a matter of fact, there are very few locations that allow meetings for free. For example, in the old days, we were allowed to meet at one of the local schools. However, budget constraints now cause the schools to charge for "wear and tear" on the facilities. One evening's meetings costs about $30. There are no venues that allow you to meet without liability insurance. All it takes is one trip and fall, and you're glad that you carry insurance. When there is an accident, everyone gets sued. Not only that, liability insurance is important to protect the facilities from the group's use. Tear the carpet, have a fire, you had better have insurance. That is, unless you want to put your own home at risk. That's another $750/year. If there is no internet connection … where does it come from? The good fairy? That's another $45/month for a dry loop connection (no phone line). When a group of 50 or so people meet, you do need a projector. It's just not possible for everyone to gather around the computer. Our group is comprised of a lot of seniors. If they are beyond the front row - they can't hear. No one is talking about a rock concert sound system, but you can still spend several hundred dollars for a system that works.
I'm a little stunned by your response. Pray tell how you hold your meetings. Who donates what? BTW - I provide my own computer and software for presentations. -- Susie Herrera Mac User for Life email@hidden \\\\=^..^=///// On Feb 22, 2009, at 8:11 PM, Brian Coleman wrote: facilities: You can't find a place to meet for free or to get it donated insurance: Why??? Come on, really?
