Hi we are reorganizing our PBMUG with new leadership and the subject of
"donations and contributions" arose at one of our Board meetings.
Our incoming President wanted to send out a media blitz announcing that
"We're not dead," and wanted to let people know the PBMUG is open to receive
whatever they will give us.
I thought I'd pass on a word of caution. For those of you that have not
jumped through the hoops to obtain your Internal Revenue Service nonprofit
charitable status in writing, please be aware that contributions or donations to your
group are not deductible for Federal (or State) income tax purposes as
charitable contributions.
Unless you state this clearly, the IRS will assume you meant to imply you are
a charitable entity. So if you are going to solicit funds or products
(S.W.A.G. too) remember to add this to your communication. A stitch in time, don't
you know?
Sorry, internationals, but I don't know the law in your country.
