Folks,
Lets remember that Apple will state how much ram is supported on a
particular computer when the computer is first released. Those
statements are usually dependent on the ram available at the time of
the computer release. Ram manufacturers still keep developing after a
computer is released, and Apple will not always update their specs to
note new ram options. There's no danger of putting bigger chips in a
computer, as long as it fits all the other specs, and like someone
stated, the worse that can happen is you don't get access to all of
the ram installed. If OWC states you can install 2 one gig sticks
inside, then by all means go for it. OWC only stands to lose if they
are wrong here. I'm betting they are correct.
As far as Crucial, well, they are a good, but somewhat pricey ram
company, IMHO. And certainly not as loyal or as friendly to Apple
customers as OWC, thats for sure.
Something to keep in mind...

I was referring to Gary asking on this list instead of speaking with

we are not resellers of RAM and of course nobody here speaks directly

what Apple or the manufacturer says is key! One of the risks of

distance, it's hard to follow up.
Crucial is a good source since they often supply RAM to Apple. Gary
might have misquoted you, because indeed the slots can hold more than
512, it just may not be directly supported by Apple. So everyone is
equally right and wrong. Gary did the right thing by talking with a
sales advisor ...he just might have gotten a quicker response with
OWC's excellent tech support chat. Usually they respond within 90
seconds to my queries. That response would have been more
authoritative and better to rely upon if trouble occurred later. That
way he'd have everthing in writing
Thanks for chiming in Ilene, hope you are feeling better.

My information was not anecdotal, nor from a discussion list, but
from a
trusted site that posts RAM info, i.e. Crucial.com.
As it happens, my information was correct in terms of Apple's
posted RAM
limits. The fact that those limits can be pushed by third party
vendors is
not supported by Apple and should be implemented carefully, because
it may
void warranties.

OWC has chat rooms with highly trained techs so you can get
immediate
answers. As stated by another member earlier, Ilene is incorrect.
I'd trust tech support over third party anecdotal information via
friends or discussion lists.
