As Rick noted, Casady & Greene used to give out great swag, as did a
couple of other companies. Where are they now? Gone! Kaput!
MS, Parallels and other vendors have plenty of $$. A small software
vendor doesn't
Swag is a great way to break a company's bank.
A good user group kit, in my opinion would be:
1. Sample software and one or two product giveaways.
2. Product Spec sheet on PDF that can be mailed to members.
3. Keynote or PowerPoint self-running demo that shows off the
product, for use at a UG meeting.
If they're dying to give something away, let them put the above stuff
on a CD to distribute to members; but most likely no one will use it.
That's just the way it is, sorry.
If they really want to give out swag.... I'd suggest that they create
3 different items, such as a t-shirt, 4B USB stick with logo, and 1
other thing. Let each person who buys the product choose one, and
give them away to people that actually buy the application.
Seems to me that's the only way to not go broke.
You know the old Macworld Expo joke? That's the one about the company
that spends the largest amount on swag, booth, and paraphernalia at
the show is usually the one that goes under first.
WingZ comes to mind. Power Computing comes to mind. iRez comes to
mind. etc. etc. etc.

Hi all,
A friend of mine is developing an application related to iPhones, but
not an iPhone app. This is a software program that runs on a Mac
desktop. He approached me and said he wants to create a kit for user
groups and I showed him recent ones we received from Microsoft,
Parallels, and other vendors.
I thought T-shirts, a copy of the program in a box, and discount codes
were key, but didn't know about pens, pads, etc.
However, I thought, let's see what others have to say.
So if you were designed a swag box from scratch, what would be in it?
