04 IMHO: Heresy! That you would wait
Well, every once in a while we rile someone enough to prompt
them to write. It's our favorite email! Last week, reader
Richard L., from Eugene OR, wrote in to comment on my article :
"iPad Getting Closer" -- Richard writes:
[Quote]
Heresy! That you would wait to by a M$ product... rather than
an Apple product. Gee, what brand of user group do you represent?
I am sorry (for you), I ponied up to order an iPad... sight
unseen, and I am CERTAIN that I will be delighted, Just like I
was by the iPhone! I don't use the "phone' part much, but the
computer' interface is phenomenal (not an exaggeration) that has
enabled me to shuck lugging my laptop, and a larger display is a
no-brainer (just like any computer). But primarily I want to USE it...
and am planning to purchase iWork for it immediately
(wanting to create on it, not just consume).
This is a game changer, compared to OS bloat that has been
predominant across the board... (why should we need a mouse to
interface... it WAS a useful temporary pointing and click device.
Scott McCloud's 'infinite canvas' actualized!
[End Quote]
Thank you, Richard!
Well, at one point I would have reacted exactly like that.
Over the years -- even though we are a Mac-exclusive shop --
I've learned that sometimes it's better to wait just a little
while on all new products. Any products.
Now, here's the twist -- since today's most frequently used
software is fairly transparent between Mac and Windows, and
considering the Courier has TWO screens, and closes to protect
those screens -- and considering the 'promise' is multi-touch,
drag and drop functionality, I believe it would be most
advantageous to test drive, hands-on, BOTH products.
There's lots and lots I really refuse to go along with on MS
products, and PC computers. However, 'fitting' my use model is
more important to me than brand loyalty.
The first guy to actually deliver, wins.
Having said that, I do agree --
Apple does indeed make the most awesome products -- the iPhone
is a game changer for sure, and we're expecting the
iPad to follow suit.

05 Serving Sizer Pro Recipe Converter and Cookbook
Finding recipes is easier than ever with the popularity of
cooking channels, online sources, clubs, and celebrity chefs.
However, people often find themselves wanting to make the
latest recipe for a different number of guests.

08 Journal or Diary Application for Mac
Recently, my granddaughter was asking us about getting a
locked diary. She doesn't want her 12 year old brother to read it.
I just Stumbled On M'moires which seems to be what the doctor ordered.

10 Make your mac os smarter
The full title is
"Make your mac os smarter with opensource stuff"
By now it has become pretty obvious that I like lists.
This is another one of the Opensource lists with a few new ones.

11 Mail a Big File
Occasionally, we all need to transfer files that potentially
won't fit either through one server or the other. MailBigFile.com
will act as middle man. And the good news is that it is free.
Although there is a time limit of 5 days or 3 downloads. There is
also a 512 MB size limit. However, if you need more, they do
have a Pro version available for a fee.

12 Fundraising goes mobile
Niles Technology Group, developer of Achievers Writing Center
apps, has launched its mobile app affiliate program. One of the
first of its kind, non-profit organizations can now fundraise
by having a series of mobile apps branded with their name
and receive 10% of the revenue.

13 Quotes: Steve Wozniak on Quotes:
Asked 'what's your favorite quote?' the Woz responds:
I don't have a favorite. I treat quotes as entertainment and
they come all the time (you see hundreds to thousands a day) and
they are almost all very good but I don't keep any in mind.
I'm more likely to remember a fortune from a fortune cookie.
Thanks Terry White for the great interview!
