I couldn’t help but notice that, the other day when I went to find information
about a particular user group, that Apple not only doesn’t feature AUG’s on
their Web site anymore, but even knowing that AUG’s exist, it was difficult to
find Apple’s pages about them.
When I found the page:
https://www.apple.com/usergroups/
and clicked on “Find a Group”, it took so long to load that I suspect most
folks would assume that the link was broken and give up before it came up.
This brought me to another page, where I had to again click “Find a Group”, and
it too took a long time to load. The actual group locator didn’t work for me.
Not good.
I’ve also noticed that Apple no longer has any noticeable links to the Apple
Consultant’s Network. (Though that program still exists, and they DO still
have a Web page on the Apple site. Like the AUG pages, they are only nominally
functional.) My guess is that Apple now wants to control everything about
their products in-house, and that they aren’t interested in any outside
activities related to their business.
With regard to AUG’s that cater to users from all over via the Internet, let me
point out the Internet-Only Macintosh User Group (IOMUG). It is a very
friendly group with a discussion list and currently over 800 members.
