save audio file action not working in leopard automator

Hi, I would like to convert my .aif loops to .caf via the following process
-get selected items (finder)
-open in sound track pro
-save audio file
-close stp
however every time I try to drag "save audio file" into the workflow I get this error message
- -NSNull length: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa002a020. In fact when selecting save audio file I only get a description of the last action selected in the action library. All the other actions within the STP.app work as expected and give a description in the action library.
I'm using STP as part of logic studio.
I have opened the package contents of the "Save STP Documents.action" inside the STP.app but I'm not sure where to look to fix any errors that may exist. I even replaced the action from the archive of the installer DVD.
I posted this in the automator discussion forum to no avail. I suppose I have this vain hope that someone might be able to give me some guidance here. My apologies if this is the wrong approach in an effort to find an answer.
