redirecting sound to speakers

The mac mini only has one audio out - headphones, which forces the audio out, and doesn't give you the option to allow sound out of the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.

Does anyone know a way around this.

I've been looking around, and thought maybe a usb audio-out adapter, which may then still let me have audio out of the speakers on request, without removing the adapter.

For example: http://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-2-0-to-Audio-Adapter/dp/B000CCZP06/ref=dp_return_2?ie=UTF8&n=560798&s=electronics

i think im starting to drift away from being automator-related as i think of different ways around my dvd player hiss problem, so ill leave it at this.

Thanks for all your help guys.
