"So, if it were a problem, I could script the volume control for my Mac. (I
don't. I just reach over and turn the on-speaker volume down.)  Could that
be a solution for you ... Does the hiss respond to volume control?"

as soon as my dvd player is volume 1 or more... i.e. any volume at all, it will give out a hiss.

that's why my only solution would be to redirect the sound to my mac mini's internal speaker - just for this one application.

maybe its not possible, but i thought i might as well ask...
