Maybe Sal could give a free update to buyers of his book via PDF of how to apply his examples to Snow Leopard?

: )

or do an upgrade deal?

Who knows?

All the best everyone

I misspelled months? Oh my God!!! Shoot me now!  (I suffer from sever peripheral neuropathy, I beg your pardon for typos.)

Your remaining points are equally spurious; however, one thing I cannot let pass: Sal S. did not know when applescript would be released? And he is the head of development for it? Dear God, then who would know??? My friend, there are decaf brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing. Give some thought to switching. If I have no right to be annoyed then you have no right to take umbrage at my posts. Welcome to ignore. Ta-ta.

Is there useful info in the book, yes, tons, is there missing and out of date info, yes. Was the fact that changes were forthcoming to applescript a secret to the author? No, Would the publication date the book have been put significantly? No, eight months. Book publication takes years. Snow leopard and automator/applescript, snow leopard version, have been in production for years.  So no, I'm  not ignoring publication lead times.

Having helped write a few books, you misspelled “months”. Sal’s book took FAR longer than most. So you kind of are not operating with the publication lead times that exist in the computer book space. A computer book that takes a year better be on something that doesn’t change often.

Releasing a book that you know will be dated only eight months after it's publication is tacky. Sorry, I'm not being unreasonable to be >annoyed< - annoyed mind you, not angry, not screaming and yelling, just annoyed. If you don't see that, it leaves me at a loss for words.

You’re making a huge assumption here, namely that Sal knew, 8 months out, the precise release date of Snow. That’s a bit of a stretch. As well, the book was absolutely current for 8 months. In the computer book biz, that’s pretty good. You’re basing your annoyance on some assumptions that experience and logic don’t support. You can’t have it both ways. If they delay the book 8 months, why not delay it until you know there will be no more changes for that version of AppleScript and automator? Of course, then you never publish.

The book was written for Leopard. It had 8 months of being absolutely current, and will remain highly useful for all of Snow, and probably the next release after. If you can’t see that, then you shall not be the only person at a loss for words.
