Can't get it to work

I have had Automator for quite some time but never tried to use it 'til now. As a final shot in the dark I am attempting this avenue. When I try to open a "NEW" file nothing happens. When I try to open a sample template nothing happens. I have gone to the website but cannot locate any "Contact Us" link (strange). Within the application I cannot locate a "Contact Us" or an update link. I suspect I might have an obsolete version but how am I to know (I have version 2.1.1)? Or possibly this application will not run in OS X 10.7 (lion). Or should I trash it?

The address of this email infers that it will be received by more that one person. We'll see. Please don't think I'm a moron. I have owned Apple computers continuously since 1978. My first Mac was a Quadra 650.
