Hello-
I am in the process of upgrading from 10.6.8 on an older intel iMac to 10.9.5 on a newer iMac with an i7 processor (but still mid 2011 era).
I had a Folder Action that worked perfectly and I rely on it daily for my workflow. All it did was put a date and time stamp in front of every file name added to this particular folder. I use in in my 'Print to PDF' options and also with my scanner that places my scans into this folder.
It worked just fine in my old setup but now as I am setting up things for the transition, a major bug has popped up.
I recreated the Folder Action exactly in the new system and it doesn't work. Without getting too wordy I'll do my best to describe what's happening.
The Folder Action is 3 simple steps- Assign a time stamp to the front of the filename, then assign a date stamp to the front of that name and then label the file as gray. We can forget about the Label file part- it's not part of the problem (I don't think).
Here is the Folder Action --
Rename Finder Items: Add Date or Time (time) Rename Finder Items: Add Date or Time (date) Label Finder Items (gray)
Here is what is happening under 10.9.5 --
When I drag a file into this folder, the Folder Action executes repeatedly until the file name has reached it's character limit. (multiple date and time prefixes).
I have done this many many times trying to figure out what the problem is and one time when I removed the file back to the desktop to reset it and try again, a '.DS_Store' file was left behind.
My theory is that since the system seems to make a copy of the file with the new file name, and then discard the old one, maybe the folder is seeing it as another new addition and adding the D&T stamp until the file name length is reached. But that's all I've got.
Anyone have a clue what is going on? The odd thing is when I step through it in Automator ( after adding the Get and Move Finder Items steps), it DOES work as expected.
Is this a Finder bug? I'm willing to upgrade to Yosemite if that matters.
I hope someone is aware of this issue and knows the solution. |
