I tried your idea. No go. I am just going to set this up as a cron job on one of my Linux servers and be done with it.
I am assuming you have set this up as an app to run in Calendar at specific times. Probably if something has changed in the update of some aspect of a security setting or some part of the Mac OS, it may trip up something in the current app settings.
I think the best place to start would be to open up your original Automator workflow and let it recompile. Make sure it runs successfully within Automator first, the resave it to an application. Hopefully this takes care of the problem.
