I suspect your point is that this list is rather quiet - I'd agree. I have a passing interest in Automator, so I don't read all of the messages.
Your approach to try and record a script is how I would have started, too. I might have then looked at AppleScript recording instead, but not confident it would have got you much further. I suspect after 2 years you either found a solution or gave up. I was curious, and it does seem as though someone else has written a Java program that might do what you want.

In the alternative, if there is some easy way to simply convert these saved AOL files into Apple Mail files, that would be great, too, but I don't think there is. Can anyone help?
