In case someone is looking through the list archives in future to help get started...
I have just found out about another (old...) site with some videos to help get people started. Whilst dated, I think the core of automator has been stable for some years. http://www.automator.us/leopard/index.html
There are also some (2007-2008, but probably still relevant) podcasts for someone looking for introductions: https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/automator.us/id267187155?mt=2
Also some podcasts (2008-2010) from Peachpit https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/mac-automation-made-simple/id288750552?mt=2 which talk about automation.
