Hello everybody,
This is my first post to this development list, and I hope that I am getting to the right area. This might in fact sound like a support quest, but I think in five years I have exhausted that area.
I already possess a bluetooth dongle from IVT which plugs into the usb port, but I get a statutory message from OS 8 and 9 on booting that the driver is not found. Somewhat in a gullible fashion, I believed bluetooth was non specific in interfacing to computers. It was just a case of going online to the oem and downloading the driver for Mac OS, and it was not there! Perhaps the Apple sites? Well it is not really Apple responsibility to create drivers for the rest of the worlds devices, on their time, but some how people around here seem to think it is. IVT have sold 26 million Bluetooth Bluesoile devices, and I did my maths and that reckons on $30 a piece, a sizable wad of funds: well I have been a 5 years hunting, and searching and messing about with this that the other kind of RS232 sort of package to try to see, per chance if any possible sense can be communicated twix phone and dongle. Well I don't like asking for help, or support, but after a
good while of trying I contacted IVT about the problem, first was told no can do, Apple do all that for their OS we only support PC. A Second call, to China was more productive, I will put it up to the board and see what we can do, thus far nothing has occured for me from that end. Surely a company that has made so much out of bluetooth can afford to shell out on a developer to create for everyone, especially for apple systems, so I have not really understood what is going on out there. Well I have tried everything with this phone of mine, even hooked it up to fax and net with success, but no joy with bluetooth interfacing yet. I have read a lot online about it being possible, and a site os 9 forever suggest that its been done, other rumours allude to only belkin or D link devices being compatible and not much else is made of interfacing. I cheekerly emailed both these people about whether a solution could be made of drivers from these places, but I
suspect the ID and DEV codes are unit specific, it was a thought, which I never got so far as being able to try. I was disappointed to read about the D link no longer being available for sale, and now we get to the crunch, dev world! I got me copy of MPW handy, and I know that all I have to do is poke a one or zero out of the usb port address, in some kind of form recognised as industry standard (that would be what my old boss would have said, I am sure it ain't that simple!). Some aspect of my searching reveals a possible need for some kind of HID, I don't actually know what a HID is, I just know that there is not one, and how it relates to for a = 1 to end of file, read bit a as data and poke it down the bus line to my old dongle, wait a bit and see what kind of response comes back, read it and stuff it in a file transfer folder file as whatever file it might be. I have also exhausted at least three mobile phone companies, each sales fellow
saying that linking or syncing up the phone to the mac could be done, in varying degrees of truth, bluetooth was the answer to all my woes of interfacing, but having it has just made things worse in communications I knew where I was with RS422 and 232.
IS knocking up a driver for IVT dongles something I can fit around my love life of using Apple kit, and around creating some Sherlock plugs? Or will I have to get the fag (cigarette) out of my mouth and get me hands dirty with some real peeking and poking about on a keyboard. Where can I go to get a exact protocols and instructions to do a driver build for this dongle? Am I wasting my time, are the rumours true a generic driver already exists in a later version OS 9 I have not got yet? What is the exact truth about Bluetooth support for OS 9 or Classic? What are the magic words for bluetooth for Apple, is 822 something or other standard airport just different words for the same thing. I know it must be out there some where, because all the kids have wireless things on their nintendo or what ever gamestation runs G3 but nothing I search for online shows me anything near an answer. Keywords, and In about 10 lines of time, can some one post be back, all you
want to know about making a driver for a usb port exists at the world woblly werewolf page of thanks giving : no tricks or treats please.
Will the USB Driver dev kit vsv Apple dev provide me with any capacity to interface to Bluetooth or is it orientated purely to dev the USB support devices like smart cards and storage sticks.
Thanks to anyone who can find 3 minutes to just post any kind of advice to me about how I can do, and I will do my best to get there. This is more a personal thing with me, I have never been beaten on an engineering problem yet, and this one has been 5 years, I got to see it through some how, if only to appease myself I am not getting old an senile.
Best wishes to you all
David Christmass
