The Bluetooth Accessory guidelines for Apple products spec R5 says that the accessory must use a Broadcaster Role as outlined in 2.2.2.1 of the Bluetooth V4.0 Core spec or the peripheral role as outlined in section 2.2.2.3. In section 2.2.2.3. The link-layer description of the Bluetooth spec goes on to say:
When establishing a link to a remote device that supports the BR/EDR/LE
device type, the link establishment procedure as defined in Section 7.1 shall be
used, and shall not use the connection establishment procedures as defined in
Section 9.3.
When establishing a link to a remote device that supports the BR/EDR device
type, the link establishment procedure as defined in Section 7.1 shall be used.
When establishing a link to a remote device of the LE-only device type, the
connection establishment procedures as defined in Section 9.3 shall be used.
I know 4S is LE capable but am having trouble finding if it is BR/EDR. We are planning on establishing a LE link only to the 4S. Should we be following section 9.3 or 7.1? Thanks.
