Hi Fred,

It seems like something has changed in iOS 6.1.3 My latest tests show that both the device name and service uuids (of my iPhone) are discovered by my mac mini regardless of the backgrounded mode. This setup used to be problematic too. I haven't tested with another iPhone.

Before this change I couldn't find any solution for this issue if the scanning had to be done in background (cannot scan with nil services). In foreground all found devices would have to be contacted that are found when scanning with nil services.
