Technically, GNUStep is based on the NeXTSTEP specification, then modified
for the OpenStep specification. Similarity to Cocoa is only because Cocoa is
based on OpenStep.

My opinion on the GNUStep is not high. The people involved have made a large
number of fundamental mistakes ----- not creating making the Workspace and
Interface Builder applications critical parts of the project, not developing
a first class Text object first, trying to integrate with X, not making it
run on Windows, etc.
