I use MTLibrarian every day. It is certainly the best way to index and
search developer documentation on you local system. I praise MTLIbrarian,
but it does have some problems.
There are several problems with it that make it less useful than google from
my point of view.
1) It does not keep the indexes updated. Any change to code or
documentation results in bogus search results from that time on. Even if
you remember to re-index, there is no way to re-index only part. You must
wait hours for a re-index of everything!
2) The search results are often wrong: The found file does not contain the
words in the search
3) Copy and paste from the results is problematic
4) The results are displayed improperly
5) The online documentation sucks and MTLibrarian can only find what is
there.
6) MTLibrarian can not search on the wisdom of this forum, stepwise, Apple
technical answers, news groups, etc. Google includes all of those in the
search.
7) MTLibrarian does not remember my preferences for bookshelves. I have to
open recent every time I start MTLIbrarian.
No application is perfect. I am grateful to have MTLibrarian. I am even
more grateful to have google.
