sounds like its your finder messed up, not anything else.
Not sure if this is safe (but it should be) is just deleted your prefs for
the com.apple.finder? not sure if that is the right file becuase i am on
windeath machine right now. But some similar file is probably the cause.
Its not PB or IB from how you are describing it.
