Sure: Apple has them... OTOH, I am pretty sure those sources are the
original NeXTStep API, not OpenStep; therefore the OSX port would not be
_that_ easy as with, say, TextEdit.

Well, one could write one's own reimplementation... that's exactly what
MTLibrarian or MarshmallowLibrarian are.

They could -- in an appropriate time; ask those who make the things. In my
personal opinion, John's Marshmallow looks much more promising, but I
personally don't like the GUI with the list view -- the shelf of MT (or the
original DL) seems to me to be much more convenient. Besides, I *very
strongly* feel its (temporary, I presume) lack of standard Find panel to
search inside a document.
OTOH, I guess that to be a real full-featured replacement for the DL
(including its regexp search and other special features), any such
application would just _have_ to be commercial! For sure I can't afford to
write something like that for free, and I am afraid neither can others...
