Side note : like you I was missing some feature available on 9 but
missing in action on X. So if you want to get back some of them like key
functions to start an app or cmd-shift-0 to put the system to sleep, you
should take a look at HotApp : http://www.trufsoft.com/HotApp.html

It brings back a lot of missing feature from 9,

PS: and cool it get installed as a system preference in 10.
