Well, consider this. Would you want apps to have a go at the desktop
picture? Imagine the chaos this could cause. I think a similar reason
was used when deciding to make it virtually impossible to identify a
particular mac for copyright and protection.

a cleaner solution but I don't know of any way to do this from Java-Cocoa
and I don't know of a way to "view" the Finder's (or any app's) AppleScript
dictionary.
