Just OT a little, I'm having some "political" problems with an
application/process "owning" the Desktop, even if it is the Finder. It
seems
like a leftover from Classic days. In a more Object Oriented/UNIX way I'd
like to see a Desktop Server that would supply services to processes/apps
(including Finder).
How about some NSDesktop or NSDesktopView (why should Finder own this
space)
classes?
The Finder owns the Desktop because it wouldn't make sense for anything
else to. And the Desktop has to be able to store files, et cetera, just
like a Finder view, so there's a good chance that they would have to
duplicate functionality if they span it off into a separate process.
I personally don't have any problem with it. I don't touch it anyhow, I
just leave my desktop picture on it.
