Want to make changes to my UI, do I lose current code?

Okay, I want to make changes in Interface Builder (IB) without losing all my code. Is there a CLEAN way of doing it other than saving everything in a "secret directory"? This is what I was doing before, but it seems so...hack. Since UI's do change over time, what is the "normal" way of doing this?

Thanks for the assist!
