I'm just putting out there that it should be possible to teach an

Apple would be highly interested in creating such materials not only

enhance Apple's prestige in the "marketplace of ideas."

Forget the cigar, as a stockholder I vote to put this guy on the Board
of Directors. Education in this country, even Higher Education where
most programming is taught, is a hit or miss venture. Why rely on
others to do your job, when you can do it much better? You always get a
keener edge by sharpening your own ax. Just think of all the bad habits
that could be avoided! Another thing: how many hours of wasted effort
are spent out here in "the World" for every hour Apple saves by not
doing a better job of education? Dozens? Hundreds? I'd bet
thousands. The first step has been made by giving the developer tools
CD to every retail buyer of OS X. Reorganizing and filling in the
documentation is step two, and should not be that big a deal--start by
hiring a good librarian! Then take step three and start a course in
Cocoa. Begin by assuming a smart ten-year-old and build from there.
When the kid gets it, run it pass his dad next. Organize the BOOKS so
folks who already have a leg up can skip the beginner parts in every
section; Typography can help, so buy out Blue Sky Research and do
EVERYTHING in TeX. Then stuff can be formatted for printing in various
formats AND pdf on-screen in HORIZONTAL format that doesn't require
always losing your train of thought in order to scroll the %$#@% page!
Hire Don Knuth. And maybe Eric Roberts, for a start. Finally, run it
pass me before you send it out; if there's a flaw, I'll find the sucker
for sure. Oh, and did I mention that you should put David Trevas on the
Board of Directors?
