I would much rather be able to d/l a distinct installer/updater by myself,
IOW without being forced to use the Software Updater.

Would be great if Software Update would offer to store the just-downloaded package onto a non-hidden place. So there were not much difference between downloading via Web Browser and Software update.

I personally hate automation. It removes me (the user) from the control
equation which is a no-no. It's too Windows-like for me.

Software Update has an option to ask you before doing anything.

As for the size of the d/l, I don't think it's too much given today's
internet connection speeds. I would like to think that most developers are
on (at least) DSL.

Well, there are still a lot of places in the world, where something like DSL is plainly not available. So, the download took about 5 hours for me, fingers crossed to suffer no interruption.

This time is OK as long you have to do it only once. But repeating it with every OS install would be a headache.

Have fun,
Markus
