I would much rather be able to d/l a distinct installer/updater by myself,
IOW without being forced to use the Software Updater.
I personally hate automation. It removes me (the user) from the control
equation which is a no-no. It's too Windows-like for me.
So, I would suggest offering both. A separate d/l that is also available
via Software Updater. Since I don't use the software update stuff it would
definitely hurt not to have it as a d/l.
A curious question is would people use Software Updater if the updates were
available through traditional means? I.E. what are the stats on SWU use.
As for the size of the d/l, I don't think it's too much given today's
internet connection speeds. I would like to think that most developers are
on (at least) DSL.
Enjoy!
