The apps I'm mostly doing target Carbon and still use type/creator and
resource forks which will not allow it to work on non HFS volumes. Until my
users are mostly using UFS (I don't see that happening for quite a long
time), I'll continue to use schemes that take advantage of HFS/HFS+.
The application I'm investigating as to whether or not to target Cocoa, will
need to generate documents that have type/creator as they can be accessed
via apps running on pre-X systems.
Again, I don't see one scheme replacing another. If you have an application
for users where a large majority will be on UFS and only running Mac OS X,
then migrating away from type/creator makes sense.
