The apps I'm mostly doing target Carbon and still use type/creator and

??? Type/Creator and resource forks work just fine with UFS (they are stored in the ._.filename file).

Until my
users are mostly using UFS (I don't see that happening for quite a long
time)

Don't underestimate the number of a) users coming from the Unix side of things and b) international users with languages where case sensitivity matters. Both will prefer UFS.
