GCC3 and compiled java (was Why Objective-C over Java?)

A couple of things I've been wondering about recently that are somewhat
relevant to this topic - maybe somebody here has some info.

From following the Darwin Dev lists, I've seen that GCC 3.0 is being rolled
out, and with it will (eventually) come the ability to create compiled java
apps, thus cutting down on some of the current java overhead. Does anyone
know if there are plans to get Project Builder to interface with this
functionality?

Also, does the all Java version of web objects still rely on the Java-ObjC
bridge, or are things being transitioned away from that?

Not that these will alleviate all the concerns people have voiced over java,
but if both come to pass, then two of the major performance concerns would
be taken care of.

PS - some solid info, please - let's stay out of further flaming rehashes of
the original topic.
