Once again; UNIX systems do NOT, I repeat: NOT, require extensions. They are
sometimes used as a means of organisation, and by certain implementations,
such as Mac OS X Finder/GUI, but not on the more basic level. The Mac OS X
10 HIG endorse the use of extensions, but also that of type/creator
(although it does not force applications to set/recognize those).
