A number of people have pointed out that Powerbooks should have Fn-F12 instead of just F12. But in a stroke of pure genius, not only does my PowerBook default to F12 (instead of Fn F12) to pop out the drive, it also uses F1 through F6 for other things. Unlike OS9, there is no way to turn this off. We haven't had this kind of insanity since System 6.0. No, even then most of the key remappings had preferences.

One.1 step forward, at least 4.1 steps back. Sorry, just mad that suddenly I have to use both hands to type shift+function+F12 instead of F12(pinkie key, no less!) now that I'm using OSX.
