Then your widget is probably not within the box. In version 2.1, the
deepest view now takes the drag off the palette, so this kind of thing
is much harder to do by accident. Assuming you're using 2.0.1, delete
your widget and double click on the box (a ring will draw around the
box). Now drag the widget off the palette and into the box.
If you move the box and the widgets inside don't move with it, they're
not grouped!

Since I'm a rank beginner at all this, it's quite possible that I was
doing something wrong or that I have my terminology mixed up (I'm in 9
right now and probably won't boot back into X till the Developer Tools
download is ready), but I was getting snap-to guides between objects
and within windows (i.e. from the window edge), but not within group
boxes (i.e. from the outer edge of an object to the inner edge of the
box).
