Well, the point actually was you don't _have_ to remember all those
cryptic codes... :-)
I'll look into it, but this raises a UI question: is it OK to display
data in one format in an editable field ("drxwrxwrxw") but accept
editing only in another format ("777")? Sounds unintuitive to me,
frankly.
I don't see any reason why you shouldn't *also* let the user type the
rwx's too. I'd use the chmod commands, myself.
