Backup/Unix/SCSI

The conversation about a real backup solution for OS X made me think back to a job I once had. We had an RS/6000 with a SCSI tape drive and the backup app was command line; tar IIRC. Of course we didn't have to deal with resource forks (frankly I don't either... I don't have OS 9/Classic installed on my machine) but it was fast and efficient.

Why can't we use gnutar to write to a SCSI tape drive? What would the device names be?

Excuse my ignorance. :)

I also found this site... maybe someone can use the source of one of the applications in the links area to build a nice backup solution? :)

And that Veritas thing... when do we get to be more than just clients? The actual backup program would be nice!

Michael.
