I having the devil of a time getting my app icon to be transparent. It currently has a white background. I have it in Photoshop but I can't figure out what to force it to be transparent.

You might want to try manually adding the alpha channel to the image. To do so in Photoshop:

1. Select what you want to be visible.

(Be careful if you are using Layer Effects to create shadows, etc. They won't be selected when you command-click a layer. You may want to merge the image down first.)

2. Open the Channels palette.

3. Click on the dotted circle inside of the box at the bottom.

And I would probably save it as a TIFF.

Also, don't forget to look over the chapter about icons in the Aqua User Interface Guidelines (http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/macosx/Essentials/AquaHIGuidelines/AHIGIcons/
Icons.html). It contains important information on the perspective and shadows specific icons should have.

Gladly,

John R. Fowler
